Udzungwa Mountains National Park

Rainforest you walk into, with primates found nowhere else.

Muhtasari

Udzungwa protects 1,990 square kilometres of the Eastern Arc, a chain of ancient forested mountains whose isolation has made them one of the most important places for endemic species in Africa. There are no game-viewing roads inside the park and no game drives: you walk, which is the whole point. The best-known trail climbs to the Sanje waterfall, a drop of around 170 metres in three stages, and takes most of a day. The forest holds the Udzungwa red colobus and the Sanje crested mangabey, both found only in these mountains — the mangabey went unrecorded by biologists until 1979, which gives a sense of how little of this range has been walked. Elephant and buffalo use the lower forest, leopard are present and almost never seen, and the bird list runs to the Eastern Arc specialities that birders come to Tanzania specifically for.
